Kew Little Aths - Message from our President 2021/22 Season

Hi KewLAC Families,

Well, what a magnificent day we all enjoyed last Saturday at our final summer Track and Field meet for the season. The weather was perfect and the sausages tasted great. Thank you so Meatsmith in Balwyn for being a wonderful sponsor. At the AGM I highlighted our financial position, noting that our EOY balance was in a healthy position. The key issue was the need for additional committee members to help move the club forward. If you want the club to continue and you have some time available, contact myself on president@kewlac.org.au or Mardi on registrar@kewlac.org.au to explore how you can help to support your club. The key roles that are vacant are secretary and arena manager, but there are many other roles that you could help with like, IT, Uniforms, BBQ, race starter, age group manager, marketing, sponsorship, first aid etc.. that don’t require a lot of time, but help the club run smoothly. Give it some careful consideration so we can ensure the ongoing viability of the club.

After the AGM we held the Handicap races, which were a lot of fun and very exciting, with some very close finishes. We had some special guest to award the handicap winners. I would to thank Jenny McCausland, Damian Menzies, Manny Dalla Costa and Isabella Dalla Costa for presenting the Handicap Gift awards. Jenny and Damian are former Presidents and we thank them for their ongoing support. We held the presentation of awards, including Age Group Champions, most improved athletes and about 80 Personal Best awards. The clubs focus is on everybody doing their best, not necessarily winning, this is why over the season the club has awarded over 150 PB awards, which the athletes are very proud to receive, and motivates them to continue to try and do their best at every meet.

Special mention was made of the great performances of club at the EMR and State Championships. Although our club is small we had some great individual performances at States, with our club's 11 competitors bringing home 9 top three places, a really outstanding performance. Special congratulations to Sophie and James Hall, who set new state records, Sophie in the U11 Girls 1500M and James in the U9 boys 800M, both tremendous performances. We will have a special presentation by state officials once these records are officially verified.

The colour run is always a season favourite and this year we had extra colour to go around. Checkout the pics on the website, there are some very colourful characters. We finished the day with a free BBQ, and some great conversations on the seasons highlights.

Cross Country

Starting in April is the winter cross-country season. The cross-country season runs on a Sunday morning through to September, with a meet being hosted by 7 clubs in our area. Each week a different Club hosts the meet in their area, and the clubs competes in a range of distances based on age group. KewLAC will be running training on a weekly basis, with Liny Powell and Adam Holland being team Captains. Remember, your current membership includes the cross-country season, so if your child is interested in cross-country or just wants to keep fit over winter, please click here to register your interest to receive further communication from the club or go to the website.

I would like to thank the Committee for their outstanding effort this season, especially those leaving the committee, their commitment to the club has been outstanding, and we thank them for their effort. Of course that give others the opportunity to step up, so we are waiting for you contact us. I would also like to thank all the volunteers who have helped through the season, especially those who help week after week. The club would not be able to function if it wasn’t for your support and next season we are looking to even more of you signing up to help the smooth running of the club on a weekly basis.

The club looks forward to seeing you all next season, and if you enjoy Little Athletics, tell your friends.

Cheers

Frank Foale
