It looked like a soggy state track and field championships at 8am last Sunday morning but by mid morning the track was sparkling in the sun and our athletes were sparkling on the track! There will be no athletics this morning - after all the rain the ground is water logged and too wet for Santa! We have rescheduled the Christmas Break Up to next Saturday morning 20th December from 8:45am. The multi event certificates will be handed out and we will run a couple of fun events with a quick visit from Santa - it will be a short program. We hope to see you all then dressed for Christmas!
The state relay championships are on Sunday 14th December at Olympic Park and we wish our athletes the best of luck and a great day of competition and fun.

Congratulations to everyone who attended the Doncaster Open Day on Saturday. Kew little athletes had a very successful day and despite some rain interruptions and a very late finish, the fireworks were spectacular! Results are now available for the Waverley Open Day - HERE!
The 2009 State Multi Event Championships are being held for U9 - U15 athletes at Warrnambool on 31 Jan 2009 to 01 Feb 2009. Any athlete can enter these championships - there is no qualification. Please speak with Manuela Dalla Costa if you are interested as a number of Kew families are going and accommodation has been booked together.
Congratulations to all the athletes who competed at the Waverley Open Day last Sunday. Best wishes also to one of our U15 athletes, Stephanie Larkin, who is off to compete in the Pan Pacific Games. Good luck Stephanie and have fun! One last reminder - on Saturday 13th December we will have a Christmas Fun day. Our program will be shorter and some fun events will be included - perhaps a parent/child relay, sack races, events for the younger brothers and sisters, etc. Athletes and siblings receive a free sausage and ice-cream. Come along dressed for Christmas!

U6 - U10 On Track Clinic VLAA is holding an U6 - U10 On Track Clinic during the school holidays. Athletes will receive coaching from the same coaches who run both the Junior Development Squad (JDS) and U13 Australian Little Athletic Championships (ALAC) programs. Date: Wednesday 14 January 2009 Cost: Free to all registered U6 - U10 athletes Venue: Doncaster Athletics Track (33 J10)

U11 Skills Clinic Each year VLAA runs an U11 skills clinic in January. All events will be covered in this comprehensive 2 day training clinic. Athletes will receive coaching from the same coaches who run both the Junior Development Squad (JDS) and U13 Australian Little Athletic Championships programs. Information and brochures will be provided for all athletes to take the next step into JDS and beyond, as well as expert advice on footwear including spikes. in the Zatopek 10 Athletic Meeting at Olympic Park on Thursday 11
December, 2008. There will be Australian Olympians in attendance
conducting an On Track Clinic between 6.30 and 7.10pm, whilst those
Relays teams who would like a final hitout prior to the State Relay
Championships have an opportunity to run in a 4x100m between 6.50 and

VLAA have now released the 2008 VLAA State Relay Championships Qualifiers and Progressions list. Click HERE! Congratulations to all athletes competing at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Relay Championships on Sunday. It was fantastic to see so many Kew teams competing and doing so well. This is the opportunity to say a big "thank you" to our Team Managers and Coaches - Kylie Italiano, Garry Connell, Jenny McCausland, Andrew Lazarus, Nick Carah & Manuela Dalla Costa. There is so much preparation that goes into entering teams for the event and working with our little athletes to get the best baton changes. Thank you also to all the Kew parents who performed their duties. Results and Qualifiers & Progressions will be posted as soon as they are available. A number of centres hold athletic events called Open Days and invite members from other centres to come and join in the competition. Open days are a great opportunity for athletes to get more competition experience in their favourite events and they are great practice for athletes wanting to enter the region track and field championships. Events usually cost approx $5 or $6 per event.

Kids Tri Challenge Triathlon is a great way to keep fit by utilising a variety of disciplines and it's great to have an event to introduce the kids to the sport in a fun, friendly and safe environment! Click HERE for more details.
