Centre Awards and Certificates

Centre awards and certificates are presented on Presentation day/evening after the AGM.  Each Little Athlete receives an Achievement Certificate showing their best performance in each event for the season. Age Group awards, Most Improved, Encouragement and Attendance awards are also presented in each age group.  Little Athlete of the Year trophies are also awarded.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS SCHEME

The Achievement Award Scheme is an incentive scheme based on individual achievement of set performance levels (discussed below). Its aim is to encourage children to participate in all events and to recognise individual effort and achievement rather than just winning. Regular attendance and participation in a wide range of events should give every Little Athlete the chance to set personal bests.

Children should be encouraged to paste their result tickets into their result books and keep a record of their performances in the special section at the back.  They can then see at a glance how they are improving in each event during the season.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AWARDS (OPs)

These certificates are given for Outstanding Performances (OP) in any single event. OPs achieved at the Kew Centre receive a certificate and will be allocated 25 points.  OPs achieved at any Little Athletics event including Open Days, EMR and State Championships will be recognised with an OP certificate only.  Multi event performances are included.

AGE AWARD

An Achievement Award for the top three athletes in each age group and each sex.  The criteria are achievement points (discussed below).  Personal best performance points and attendance points are not included when calculating the recipients of each award.  U8 – U15 multi event achievements are not included.

MOST IMPROVED AWARD

One such award is presented within each age group and each sex.  The criteria are based on Personal Best (PB) points (discussed below).  The first performance of the season in each event will be the benchmark and PBs will be set from each subsequent performance in that event.  Personal bests set during multi-event competition are included.

ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD

One such award is presented within each age group and each sex.  The Age Manager is responsible to nominate an athlete for this award with the Committee Executive and Team Manager endorsing the recommendation.

PARTICIPATION AWARD

Eligible athletes are those who have participated in a minimum of 70% of competition days from their date of registration, with a minimum of 5 weeks attendance.  An athlete who has already received one of the above awards will not receive a Participation award.

LITTLE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Little Athlete of the Year trophies are awarded to one Outstanding Boy and Outstanding Girl athlete in U8-U15 age group.  There is no “On Track” award.  Achievement points are the criteria for determining this award.  Attendance points and personal best award points are not included.

Understanding Your Scores

Performance at KewLAC is scored according to set achievement levels (as described above). These are set by KewLAC to reflect long term performance levels for different sexes and ages. Tables used to calculate athletes achievement are found at the back of the Centre Handbook.

To calculate the Achievement Level (described as a colour) and points awarded:

1.   Locate the correct age & sex,

2.   Match the performance level - e.g. if an U.9 boy runs the 100m in 17.2 seconds, this is a bronze level, given that a maximum of 17.3s is the bronze standard and 16.5s the silver. Any time between 17.3s &16.6s is bronze,

3.   Using the Achievement Points table below, match the points allocated to that level –e.g. bronze equals 10 achievement points.

Every event the child runs/jumps/throws is scored & all are added up at the end of season to determine the athlete’s overall achievement.  Kew LAC uses a computer program to record each athlete’s achievement for the season based on results provided by parent recorders on individual result sheets.

Multi Event Scoring

Multi-event days provide an opportunity for a 5 event competition day within the athlete’s age group and are scored using a separate points table.  Multi-Event Day Awards are given for the best three scores in each age group, and the best overall U6 – U7 and U8-U15 athlete (for each sex).

Athletes in the U8-U15 age groups are encouraged to participate in Multi-Event Day at KewLAC, however, performance on this day does not contribute to the overall achievement award.  Personal Bests and Centre Records will be recorded.
