General Information About Relays

All children in the U9 - U15 age groups are eligible to compete at the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) relays.  Teams are selected by the Relay Committee within the first few weeks of competition based on sprinting ability and availability for the EMR Relay Championships and State Relay Championships should the team progress to the State Relay Championships.

Athletes are allowed to compete in a maximum of three events for the day.  Events include 4x100m relays, 4x200m relays, medley relays, single sex and mixed sex races.  Kew Little Athletics Centre pays the entry fees for competing teams and provides the relay training at no cost.

As a team event it is imperative that children only sign up for a team if they are committed to training with the aim of competing at region and potentially state championships.  Training will take place on week nights and weekends. To ensure these days run as smoothly as possible, each centre is required to provide a number of officials for simple duties (e.g. setting up, packing up, writing out results, etc).  If your child is selected for a team, expect to be rostered for part of the day on a duty.

Athletes must compete in Kew Little Athletics official club uniform.  If you do not have a uniform, please contact Manuela Dalla Costa, the Uniform Co-ordinator on 9859 8838.

A number of Saturday morning competitions need to be run in order to ascertain athletes sprinting times before teams are selected and finalised.  Additional races are held during October to determine athlete times over 100, 200 and 400m.
