ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - KEW LAC

On the evening of March 26th, during our break up and Presentation evening, we will hold our AGM which is usually a rather quick affair. Please refer the list below of committee positions and consider if you would like to join our group of active, passionate parents. Meetings occur monthly however the main aspect we are keen to bring to the committee is new blood, enthusiastic parents and people who are equally eager for our club to continue growing. Please feel free to chat with any of the existing committee members if you would like to discuss any issues. Most of the positions have parents who are still at the club who will still be able to assist with handover as well.

REMINDER – END OF SEASON CROSS COUNTRY RUN, BREAKUP, PRESENTATION & ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – March 26th

Just letting you all know that the summer season will end on the last Friday of term – March 26th - as a Twilight session with warm-up starting at 5.30pm for 6pm. The last session always covers many things – Cross country Trials for all our kids to have a bit of fun and see if they are keen to do cross country during the winter season. Presentations to our athletes occur to the Top 3 athletes in each age group, the Most Improved as well as Encouragement Awards. Attendance Awards are presented to children who have attended at least 70% our athletics sessions since they have joined up with Kew LAC. We also run our Annual General Meeting. There are a number of people who are leaving the committee as their children are moving on so vacancies exist for all interested parents. Committee Meetings occur monthly in a very relaxed manner. See Dennis Dalla Costa or Nick Carah if you would like more information. Free sausage, drink and a sweet treat for all the children on the evening.

26/27/28th FEBRUARY – VICTORIAN YOUTH TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

A small handful of current and former Kew LAC athletes competed at the Athletics Victoria Youth Track and Field Championships as part of Seniors or JDS (Junior Development Squad as invitees) over the weekend. Many PB’s were achieved which is a great effort for all. Congratulations to each of our athletes. Their great results can be viewed at the AV website at www.athsvic.org.au . A number of our athletes also qualified for the National Youth Track and Field Championships being held in Sydney later this month. Thanks to our Knox friends, they have advised there is financial assistance potentially available as follows: For those who made national qualifying times/distances to compete at the Nationals in Sydney- Olympic Stadium between Wed 11th March – Sun14th, checkout the grant for financial support at:

Thank you from EMR Competition Director - Peter Wright

Thank you all for such a fantastic weekend of athletics competition. By my reckoning, running an event as large as EMR Track and Field
Championships requires approximately 420 people to put in 20 hours of effort during programmed competition (8400 hours), plus the many hours of set-up, pack-up, preparation, organisation and stress prior to the weekend (2000 hours)!
So, for the part you played in the +10,000 hours needed to give our athletes the chance to run, jump and throw to the best of their ability. I sincerely thank you and to all officials, supporters and Centre Committees.

Peter Wright
Competition Director, EMR

 VERY SPECIAL THANK-YOU RE EMR

As many of you saw, EMR is a huge exercise that comes together after many hours of planning and preparation by many people, many of whom no longer have active children involved. Two of our own Very Special helpers were Garry Connell and Jenny McCausland who gave up their entire weekend to support Kew LAC as well as the EMR community at large. Jenny had the role of Chief Discus Official and Garry took on the role of Chief Umpire, meaning they were at the track from early both mornings till stumps. Whilst we realize they obviously love their athletics and love catching up with some of their old friends, it’s still a great commitment from them as well as their families so Thanks from us all at Kew.

FINAL EMR PROGRAM & FINAL ATHLETE ENTRY LIST - FEBRUARY 2010

Please note the FINAL EMR Program is now attached HERE for you to confirm the heat and final times of your events.

Main changes affecting Kew athletes relate to the U13G High Jump with the time changed from Saturday am to pm. Please print off the sheets and highlight your events and times – heats and finals.

You will also find the list of Kew athletes and their events – please ensure you know your times and that you are at the KNOX Athletics (Knox Park - Map 73 D7) track ready to compete at least 1 hour before your event as marshalling will occur 20 minutes prior to your event and a warm-up would be a good idea. Full KEW LAC competition uniform is mandatory – maroon and gold shorts and singlet or crop top.

Call Manuela on 0407 360 310 if you require a set.

Click HERE for Kew Boys Athletes

Click HERE for Kew Girls Athletes

For our new U9 athletes and those who have not competed before, good luck – stay calm and relaxed.

Bring a spare T-shirt, sunscreen and a hat + a spray bottle as the forecast is hot. Bring plenty of drinks and make sure you start to hydrate your bodies from Friday, slowly taking in at least 2 litres of water over the day and continue drinking water over the weekend. If you drink Sports drinks, please make sure you buffer them with plenty of water as well.

Parents' EMR Duties - Refer HERE for Final List

Please remember to sign in with Nick Carah, Kylie Italiano orManuela on the day so we know you are at the track. Also, ensure you are ready to swap over from your duty in plenty of time as the workload needs to be shared amongst us all. The 1st person each day will need to sign in and collect their tags with the last person of the day needing to sign them back in again. Please note, due to some athletes withdrawing as late as this week, we have had to re-adjust the duty list stretching some of your time slots. Sorry about this and thanks to you all in advance. For the parents, please also make sure you are well hydrated and that you take a hat and sunscreen with you as well.

Nick, Kylie and Manny are Team Managers for the weekend and Garry Connell is a Chief Official as is Jenny McCausland for the entire weekend so thanks to you all as well.

Good luck and see you all over the weekend.

EMR Track and Field – KNOX, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of Feb 2010

At this stage, no final EMR Schedule has been released. This is very uncharacteristic of the usual planning of the entire EMR event and it has occurred due to some unforeseen issues. We are expecting to receive the final program late this evening and upon receipt will forward it all competing athletes and place it on the website. If you have any queries, please call Manuela on 0407 360 310.

Pre-EMR Competition – Friday twilight at Doncaster LAC

An invitation has been extended to all the Kew LAC little athletes who are competing at EMR over the upcoming weekend to compete at Doncaster LAC on Friday evening. This is to give each child to get some competition prior to the weekend, if they want it. The assumption is that children who are competing in the 800m on the Saturday morning would NOT go down to Doncaster. The only expectation is that if your child would like to compete at Doncaster, the parents MUST volunteer to do a duty on the evening.
The events for the U9 & U10 athletes are: 70m, 800m, High Jump and the 100m
The events for the U11 athletes are 70m, 800m, Triple Jump and Shot Put
The events for the U12’s are 70m, 400m, Triple Jump and Shot Put
The events for the U13 & U14 athletes are 100m, 400m, Long Jump and Shot Put

Any queries, please call Manuela on 0407 360 310 however all children competing at EMR over the weekend are very welcome to just join in for the evening.

We tried our best to align parent's duty time to their children's events as best as possible. Please try to stick with this program, or you may refer to Nick if you have any problem with this arrangement.
