Thanks to all our Kew families and parents who helped out with duties - the day went well and progressed much faster than planned.

Well done to all the children who represented Kew LAC today. Many of our kids were absent due to illness - 13 out of 52 who planned to run: a sure sign of the winter bugs that are around at the moment. Many of the competing athletes were also not necessarily 100% fit - thanks for running; take care and hope you will all recover quickly.

Of the 39 children who competed, 24 of these managed to finish up in some way on the podium - Well done to them as well as all the children who also ran their hearts out.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY – JULY 26th

EMR is no longer a qualifying event for the State Championships which are being held on Sunday, 26 July, at Bundoora Park. Due to this change, we need to enter all Kew LAC athletes wanting to compete in the State Championships by Friday 26 June at the latest. If you have not already advised us, please let either Manuela Dalla Costa or Tony Rule whether you plan to compete by this weekend.

EMR Cross Country Championships ON SUNDAY JUNE 21ST

EMR Cross Country Championships will be held this Sunday, 21st June, with the first event scheduled for 10.00 am, program attached HERE.  Whilst early entries have closed, late entries will be accepted on the day. Check the confirmed list of athletes already entered HERE .

Along with the joy of watching your children run, attached HERE is a listing of Duties for our parents and HERE for Parent Duty Responsibilities. Kindly share the load around, it will make life easy if we can all do whatever that is allocated to you.

Things to Remember:
Good idea to get to the track early and walk the track so the athletes know what to look out for as there are only rabbits in the younger races – up to U9.
Bring extra change of clothes if the weather promises to be bleak.

Come ready for a fun day out! And we are concluding the day with our Mid Season dinner at Colombo’sat 5.30pm. Please confirm numbers attending ASAP to Manuela Dalla Costa at 9859 8838 / 0407 360 310.

COMPETING AT EMR XC ON SUNDAY JUNE 21ST

HI all – You should all be aware that our Regional XC competition will be happening on Sunday June 21st at Ruffey Lake. Please refer to the attached spreadsheet which lists the athletes whom I think may be running.

  • Athletes whose names are in BOLD have already pre-paid their fees (or will do so this Sunday) and have confirmed they are indeed running.

  • Athletes whose names are NOT in bold, have not paid any fees and have not confirmed you plan to run. You are listed in the “CC” section of this email together with some athletes who run summer season who are also distance runners

  • The program is attached HERE so you can check if it fits with your timetable. As Kew will be billed for whichever individual athletes are included in the list as well as teams, I need to know ASAP if you are definitely running.

  • If you are unsure, please let me know and you will have the option of arriving on the day and paying a fee directly to EMR on the morning.

  • There is no prerequisite this year as to the number of runs you need to complete before EMR and this year there is NO requirement to run at EMR to compete at State.

  • Kew LAC has many children who run in XC, so one advantage of running is that if we have as many runners as possible, we could win the overall shield for the day. This is calculated by giving a score to the first 3 runners from each club regardless of where you arrive in the race.

13 June 2009

Cross Country Dinner

Don't forget the Mid Season dinner at Colombo’s – Sunday 21st June 5.30pm, click HERE for details.

Please confirm numbers attending to Manuela Dalla Costa or see Tony Rule as soon as possible. We always have LOTS OF FUN. See you there!

Ringwood Open Day

Ringwood LAC Open Day will be on the Sunday 19th July 2009. Whoever plans to run needs to let Manuela know by email on dalla_costa@bigpond.com or call me on 9859 8838 to confirm you are planning to compete. For the children who have already pre-paid the bulk EMR entry fees, I have included you on the list that I will submit on behalf of Kew LAC athletes however the remaining children who are competing regularly will need to let me know otherwise you will need to pay directly to Ringwood LAC on the day. Details are attached HERE!

4 June 2009

Box Hill Open Day

Forty three athletes from Kew competed at the Box Hill Open Day held at Wattle Park on a cold and foggy Sunday morning.  Despite the wintery conditions the Kew team performed very well winning 12 individual medals (6 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze) and 9 team medal results (4 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze).  Well done to everyone who competed and keep up the good work. J

There is no Sunday run this weekend due to the Queens Birthday weekend and whilst there is no EMR events, there are open days scheduled in Essendon, Benalla and Geelong for that weekend that Kew athletes are welcome to attend.  There are a number of Kew families who have indicated that they will be competing in the NMR event in Essendon - refer to our calendar for details and entry forms at www.kewlac.org.au . There is also the usual Saturday morning Knox run on offer at Wicks Reserve (Mel 65 H8). Refer the Knox website for details www.klac23.org.au .

Coming up we have the Collingwood run (at Gardiner's Park) on June 14, the EMR Championships at Ruffey Lake Park on June 21 (followed by the Cross Country Dinner at Colombo's) and then the Eastern 7 Open Day at Ruffey Lake Park (again) on June 28.  Enjoy your long weekend and happy running.

Nunawading Wrap Up and upcoming Open Days

This Sunday is the first of the open days for the season to be hosted by the Box Hill Centre at Wattle Park in Surrey Hills (entrance from Riversdale Road), Melways Ref: 60 J2.  The club has submitted an entry for those athletes that have confirmed and paid either $6 (for this weekend) or $30 (for all six open days) to Tony Rule or Manuela Dalla Costa.  If you have not entered yet, you can still arrive early on the day and pay $8 to participate.

After this weekend, there are five more open days where Kew enters as a club.  They are:

  • EMR - June 21

  • Eastern 7 - June 28 (need to compete in three Eastern Region Sunday runs to be eligible)

  • Knox - July 4

  • Ringwood - July 19

  • State - July 26

Athletes are encouraged to also compete in other open days - refer to the calendar for more details of additional events.  Next weekend is the Queens Birthday weekend and whilst there is no Eastern Metropolitan Region events, there are other open days scheduled in Essendon, Benalla and Geelong for that weekend.  There are a number of Kew families who have indicated that they will be competing in the NMR event in Essendon - refer to the calendar for details and entry forms.

Socially, we are holding our annual cross country dinner at Columbo's on June 21 (after the EMR open day).  It would be great to see all the parents and kids there to enjoy the night.  More details to come.

Happy Running!

Doncaster XC - Ruffey Lake Park

Yet another beautiful morning for Cross Country with the athletes running the hills of Ruffey Lake Park. Kew LAC had 36 children running across the various age groups, with a number of our new members competing as well. A few had to avoid a couple of dogs which I am sure made them run even faster! Well done to you all – all the results will be on our website ASAP.

Congratulations to so many of you who have also had School XC as well as District. I have heard of many stories where Kew LAC children have come in the top 10 places in their XC events and have moved to the next round. Well done and keep up the fabulous training. Remember that mid-week training is happening every Wednesday from 4.45 till 5.45pm at Stradbroke Park with Damian, Kylie, Manuela and now also David (from Step Into Life). This week we will be doing more hill work so you will be ready for the Nunawading run at the Bill Stewart Aths track this Sunday with Program B and then our first Open Day the following weekend with the Box Hill Open Day at Wattle Park (Program A).

Fees are due for our XC children for all the 6 Medal days of the season. Please pay Manuela or Tony the $30 per child by cheque or cash. As the Box Hill form needs to be submitted this week, can you all please confirm by reply email to Manuela Dalla Costa to confirm you are attending this first Open Day. FYI, NO run-ups are allowed for this day and NO extra medals – 1st 3 children over the line only. The listing of all our XC registered children is attached HERE so please refer to this and let me know which events you will be attending.
