As there have been limited replies regarding the interest for mid-week holiday Cross Country training, it has been decided that NO training will occur over the next 2 Wednesdays – July 2nd and 9th. It will resume again at 4.45 on Wednesday 16th of July at Stradbroke Park. At this stage, we encourage as many of you to run at Knox’s Open Day this Saturday July 5th to keep up your competition practice and if possible, you may also run at their regular Saturday run on July 12th at Bellbird Dell (Melways 62 J6) – you will need to wear your patch at all of the Knox runs. This will be the same venue as the EMR. Optional Training session on Sunday July 13th (please confirm with Manuela if you are planning to come so numbers can be advised to the organizing committee ASAP). As there are no EMR runs until the July 26th Ringwood Open Day post the holidays, you can also attend the Knox run on July 19th at Jells Park (Melways 72 B9). Finally, a training program has been prepared by Andrew Lazarus with the idea that you maintain your fitness by following that. Click HERE to see all the details. Good Luck, happy training and enjoy the holidays!
Many happy faces were to be had yesterday as all the Eastern 7 competitors received their medals commemorating the 1st Eastern 7 Day. The track was dry, a bit hilly but a good result was had by you all, so well done. Unfortunately none of the Kew members won the huge Cadbury Chocolate hamper but the athlete who did was VERY happy! Photos to come soon.

Now that EMR has gone, all the children who competed on the day except for the U6 athletes have qualified for State on August 3rd at Warragul. You will need to keep your training and fitness up over the holidays as there will be NO EMR Sunday runs until the Ringwood Open Day on July 27th. This Sunday, some of you are attending the Eastern 7 Invitation Day to be held at Collingwood’s Yarra Bend W.J. Cox Oval Melways 2D D5 (Program A) starting at 10am. The following Saturday (July 5th) is the Knox Open Day at Norton’s Park and the option is to run their other Saturday runs during the holidays but you will need to wear your patch and register the first time you run there (refer to the Knox website on www.klac23.org.au) . On July 13th we have an EMR training session at Bellbird Dell (refer Calendar) for information. On July 20th, we will probably run our own training session at Kew if there are enough interested kids. An additional Open Day is the Essendon Open Day on July 26th which always has some great competition. If you are interested in any of these Open Days, please email Manuela Dalla Costa to confirm as I will send in a group registration form.
A great night was had by all the people still energetic enough to kick on after EMR. A fabulous night was had at our sponsor Colombo’s in Whitehorse Road and at least it meant the Mum’s did not have to cook!! Click HERE to see photos of the night.
Keep the training up – we will still run a training session this Wednesday if there are enough interested children and families – so please email me to advise. Also, for those of you who may be going away, please find a plan HERE that has been prepared by Andrew Lazarus. If you have any queries, fell free to call or email any one of the 4 people listed on the plan.
Cheers and keep up the good work - the CC Team!!
CONGRATULATIONS FOR ALL VPSSA COMPETITORS Congratulations to all the Kew Lac athletes who competed in the State VPSSA championships last Friday at Bundoora Park. I heard everyone ran very well and the final result had 2 of our runners progress to National Championships in late august in Geelong. Megan Pengelly and Tom Barry in the U10A races, both finished in the top 5 so will be maintaining their training plan in earnest to be at the best. Well done to you all and Good Luck!
Please click HERE to read all of the updated information on the EMR Cross Country Championships on Sunday 22 June 08 at Ruffey Lake Park in Doncaster from 10am. Note also the information on uniform regulations and for asthma sufferers. WWWC – WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK
If your work or volunteer activities fall within the occupational field of Clubs, Associations or Movements of a sporting or recreational nature then you will need a Working With Children Check (WWWC). Any parent who is actively involved at Kew LAC are requested to complete a WWWC which can be obtained via their local post-office. As we are volunteers, there is no fee to lodge but you will need a passport sized photo of yourself.
A website link is also available: http://www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren which does indicate end June 2009 but better to get thinking and moving ahead of time!
Be ready for next Sunday’s EMR event as the hills at the Doncaster track will be similar to Box Hill and the competition will be fierce as ALL the Eastern Metro Region athletes compete, not just our local clubs, so run hard and try your best as the number of runners in each event will be just about double to the usual Sunday runs. Training will be this Wednesday from 4.45pm and will include some hill work up along the back fence giving all the kids some good practice for EMR. Click on the link above to see all details related to EMR this Sunday.
Don't forget that the Cross Country Dinner is on this Sunday night at Colombo's. Please email Manuela Dalla Costa or call to confirm your attendance. Full details HERE!
What a great day for our Kew runners at the Box Hill Open Day. Congratulations to many fine performances and great efforts from all our young athletes. Many of you ran your first Open Day and I hope you enjoyed it as this was great practice for EMR next Sunday at Ruffey Lake. Much maroon and gold was seen on the podium across the morning, with individual place-getters in many age groups as well as some fabulous TEAM efforts. In fact, the U13 girls placed 1st to 4th over the line, so it really looked like a wash of maroon. WELL DONE to each and every one of you. A number of you were not at Box Hill as you had your run on Saturday at Knox, so keep up your good training. Click HERE to see lots more photos from the Box Hill Open Day.
31st January & 1st February 2009 - (NEW DATE) @ Lake Pertrobe Centre, Warrnambool The State Multi Event Championships for 2009 are to be held at the end of January next year in Warrnambool. Given this is too far to travel in one day; there may be an interest for the Kew LAC families to stay at the one location as has been done before. If any family is interested in their child/children attending, please call or email Manuela as I am happy to make a group booking at the one location if people are keen. The website address to the Big 4 Ocean Beach Village, Warrnambool is http://big4.bestonparks.com.au/parks/obhv/default.aspx and their contact number is 03 5561 4222 if you have any specific queries. Event Details: Athletes compete over 2 days :
Athletes must enter through their
State Multi Event Coordinator – Manuela Dalla Costa - by the
allocated closing date – prior to Christmas. There is no
Regional qualifying preliminary round. All athletes compete in
five athletic disciplines: 100m, Hurdles, 800m, Long Jump and
Discus.
After a brief time being off the world wide web, the Kew web site is back up and running - apologies for the "time out". HERE is the Region Cross Country Event Schedule. The first event of the Championship starts at 10.00am and at the STARTERS discretion thereafter. Do not estimate when their event will start as a no. of factors are taken into consideration when starting events. Also note that late entries will be accepted at $12.00 per athlete.
Thanks to Tom Kelly for another great morning of training drills and sharing his expertise on cross country running. A number of our regular cross country runners took advantage of his coaching tips on a sunny Saturday morning. Click HERE to view more photos.
